Costume Choices
I decided I would use my skills of art to create an inspiration collage that myself and Erica can look at when we feel the need for inspiration towards the costume choice. The Collage helps because its different costumes we like and its about finding the different material and outfits and accessories and drawing them together to make the best yet suitable costumes for our music video.
We have decided for our music video after researching into these videos we shall be using bright colored outfits mainly dresses and denim jackets. Accessories we have thought about would be flower headbands or cute bows to create the feminity of the younger audiences and the target Audience of young teenagers that like the fashion style. We have decided to use sunglasses and straw hats to create the folkish feeling with this. Eliza Doolittle wears these 60's style iconic sunglasses which is what me and Erica plan to do to create the jazz and folk style. Going back to the conventions of jazz it has to look quite stylish yet formal.. Which is why me and Erica have planned to use summer time dresses to get the feel good vibes yet it is still stylish and rather quirky too. Going back with the conventions of folk we have decided to use my black acoustic guitar which can be related to the "silver lights" song itself. Hearing the acoustic wit hint the song at the beginning and in the verses this will also relate to the folk aspects of of couture choices.
When looking into different music videos such as "Big When I was Little" you can see the different kind of style Eliza Doolittle has from other artist like Jessie J or Beyonce. This is because she has a different target audience. Artist like Jessie J and Beyonce have a wider audience that differs in age because of the style of their music. Whereas Eliza Doolittle has her own style and that shows in her costume choise in each of her music videos too.
I have print screened some different outfits Eliza Doolittle wheres in different songs of hers.
For instance this shot of Eliza her sunglasses are very retro old school which can represent that Eliza can be seen as an old school kind of artist. Where as if Beyonce of Jessie J wore sunglasses you would possibly be looking for something a little bit more mainstream.
Again you wouldn't expect to see these kind of hats worn either in a lot more popular music videos. This is because Eliza Doolittles music is somewhere along the lines of folk/jazz/acoustic/pop. To create her right style of music video she needs to wear the right costumes. Just like any other artist would depending on there genre of song and record label. Eliza Doolittle has this kind of funky fresh edge to her costumes which screams out that she is trying to attract the new younger generations because they could be seen as funky and fresh because their the new generation.
When we get to this scene of Eliza in the record shop she is actually wearing a short yellow dress which shows that her target audience may be opening to a wider audience then we thought. I would say from what shes wearing at least 15 - 19 year olds is her target audience. Her costume choice bring our different things such as the colour's. There bright which could represent the happiness that Eliza is feeling throughout the song and the boldness of her personality. Yellow can be shown as a rather vulnerable colour and it represents the childish behavior and innocence.

Because she is wearing shorts it immediate adds to the whole femininity of showing her legs. Also shorts are mainly worn in the summer/spring time which could relate back to the season that she is in.

With the picture of Lauren from Cimorelli with the glasses and head band and bubbles. It just shows that the props. location and costumes all play a part together in helping come up with the right emotions to portray across. Along with the help of the colours. This is something that myself and Erica really do need to look into when we come to finding our costumes. This is because of the kind of themes we would like to go for in our music video. Also we should be thinking about the accessorizes of hats, flowers, sunglasses ad jewelry and nail varnish. These are little tiny things that draw attention to the costume and performers making them stand out alot more. This is something myself and Erica need to sit down and discuss.
I find that our main inspiration for our costume choise would be from Eliza Doolittle and possibly the cimorelli girl band. Even though Lenka would be a good choice I don't think her fashion sense would fit into our music video as well. Lenka's voice is rather girlie and her whole music video is rather cheesy and sweet. Her outfit actually goes well with her music and song. Whereas our song is more out going and bold with a rather big personality.
I think Erica Hall and myself need to think about wearing bold colours that stand out against our locations we have picked because then the star image is bold and it represents the bold vibrant good feeling that we are going for in our music video. Overall our style and costume choices for our music video will be quirky yet fashionable however it will always target at the target audience we have aimed our music video at. For instance bright colors, flowers, cheesy sunglasses - possibly younger teenager girls.

Song Choice
To make our music video we needed to find the perfect song which fitted the biref given and the target audience. Finding the perfect song for our music video was actually very hard too do. Sometimes you would find a song and it would of been a signed singer, For our song chocie it had to be something that we wouldnt be bored with, what we think an audience would like to here and obviously and unsigned singer.
Finding the right song took a lot of our time up, we were constaly sending messages back and forth to different local acts and bands and getting no reply. We stumbled upon a couple of unsigned singers but we just didn't feel their song suited our likings.
We searche don YouTube alot and then suddenly we stumbled across a youtube channel called "Drew Tabor" she is a young girl who uploads alot of acoustic covers, we found a link in the video descriptions to her youtube channel to her new EP. I then took down this information and searched her name in google and nothing suggested that she was signed which means that she was an unsigned singer on youtube with one great song. I played the song to my fellow group member Erica Hall, and we could both see different scenarios in our head. So we decided to email Drew on facebook also on Youtube, We got an instant reply which gave us our first choice in song. The interesting thing is that we didn't think we would get a reply for Drew as she has aload of views on her videos which we thought would be impossible to get in contact with us. When Drew replied back it was a shock.
Our second choice was from a girl in a band called Sunday Lane. She's rather chilled out and when we found her sond we also pictured the different scenarios running through our heads. We emailed Sunday Lane asking for there permisson and happily she allowed us.
It took us at least 1 day to Narrow down to the final song, The final song that we decided to go with is Drew Tabor "Silver Lights". The reason for this is because she is a rather well known person on You Tube and has a big fan base which allows us to get more views and a wider audience on the music video to be interested enough ion watching it. Furhtermore we felt that her tone and her style of music fitted the target audience all together. We saw positivity and good vibes from this song choice and its something that we hope to apply to our music video. I'm very happy with the song choice for our music video and so is Erica Hall. Were going to carry on researching and planning into the music video and come up with a lot more ideas.

Music Video Planning Part 2
Below I have written out the lyrics to "Silver Lights" by Drew Tabor which is mine and Erica Halls chosen song for our music video. The reason I have decided to do this is because I wanted to annotate the lyrics with different ideas for our music video. When annotating these lyrics I tried to think of different conventions to music videos but mainly focused on "lyrics and visuals".
I had ideas such as when Drew sings the lyrics of "Oh Oh Oh" myself and Erica could emphasises this with big white cards and black lettering of "Oh Oh Oh" each time it's sung that way it's a simple yet quirky/bold way of showing the lyrics and matching them with the visuals on screen for the audience benefits.
This was a good idea because throughout the song we had a lot more ideas come to mind with different camera angles which is shown in the picture below. This has defiantly helped myself think of different scenarios and outcomes to the music video.

Music Video Planning
Erica Hall and myself have planned our music video through suggesting different ideas that pop into our head and then writing a spider diagram. We grouped certain parts together because we both felt like this would be more organised for myself and Erica too look at whenever we needed different ideas. This planning is actually helping us a lot too come up with different ideas such as costume choices which has been posted previously, setting locations and coming up with the main outline of our storyline for the music video.
We really hope to challenge some of the conventions in music videos and we hope that our planning will help guide us towards this direction over the following weeks.
So far as you can see from this spider diagram Erica and myself have come up with lots of ideas and are going into this project with an open mind and trying to be as creative as possible to match the target audience we are aiming our video at. We've tried to broaden our ideas and imagination with this which will hopefully lead to a suitable music video.
Below is a picture of the spider diagram with mine and Erica's ideas.

Focus Group
This video is a video that shows some of the interview questions we have asked different ages of the target audience. The Questionnaire Analysis actually helped us narrow down to what age range we should be aiming at and asking the questions too. We also figured that because of the style we want to aim more of our video towards the target audience of teenage girls. However boys would be welcome to watch it but we feel that girls would be alot more significant in this case. This video was filmed using iPads and edited on iPads using the software iMovie. We have been given permission from Drew Tabor (which is the artist who song is playing in the background when the group discuss the song in further detail).
Firstly we decided to interview at least 2 people from the group that way we can get different opinions from the questions we have asked then the second part of this interview we decided to go with showing these girls the song and getting their reaction from it. Having them sit around the table with the lyrics and the music playing allowed the girls to discuss as a group what kind of things they disliked and liked about the song itself. For instance we got alot of positive feedback from 3 of the girls and then 1 negative comment from Zoe Jolly who has said that it isn't something she would listen too because she mainly listens to 60's music and rock. However knowing that the percentage of the girls said they liked the song and that they would listen to it gave us positive feedback knowing we are aiming it at the right age and gender.
Furthermore when we ask questions about what kind of emotions they feel when listing to the song we can clearly see that its alot of positive attitudes and nothing negative or depressing, Kim Erum described the song as bouncy and relating it to different artist such a Collbie Calliat. In addition to this in the interview section we got the response that the music reminded the girls of artists such as "Eliza Doolittle" "Lenka and "YouTube artists". This is very good because we didn't tell them the song name or artist which means that they were able to point out that this girl singing is actual fact a You Tube artists. However something important that i have picked up from this would be that they related the song to sounding similar to "Eliza Doolittle" and "Lenka". This is fantastic because this is the exact same reaction Erica Hall and myself had towards the song choice. We have also been researching into these artist for the researching and planning process. This shows that myself and Erica Hall are on the right track in researching these artist because its something that these teenage girls know so matching up the similairtes between each song and artist will be good to combine together in our music video for the audience liking.
When planning for our music video. We kept researching into what this target audience had said and what things they would want to see.. For instance "summer vibes and firends having fun and laughing" - Hearing this comment from our focus group was great because it allowed us to develop this in the planning and research stage. This focus group video was viewed alot when choosing different options and opinions.
This focus group will help towards the palnning process of our music video, The comments that the girls gave will help myself and Erica create the exact kind of music video/ style based video they were looking for. I think that listing to the feedback and the opinons that these guys gave towards the song and mentioning the artisit "Eliza Doolittle" will help us create a artist which we can get inspiration from.

Overall Erica and myself need to taker into consideration what these girls have said and how they feel about the music video, how we as the makers of the music video can make it more appealing to audiences that don't like to listen too the song. Furthermore the suggestions of different artists would be helpful for research based in codes and conventions. This is something worth looking into to match the girls opinions for the music video.
